This art history workbook introduces middle school students to visual artists Gustav Klimt, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Georges Seurat and Paul Klee. Students learn about the artist through an artist bio, video resources, coloring sheets and art analysis. Then they complete a project in the style of the artist. Extension activities are also included.

Each artist workbook includes:

  • An Artist Biography Sheet
  • Teacher Instructions
  • More Resources Sheets/Videos
  • Art Analysis
  • Coloring Pages of each Artist
  • Student Project and Extensions for each Artist

For ease of use, I recommend printing the worksheet bundles and then compiling them into a three-ring binder to make a workbook. Keep the keys out for your own use. Each artist has a poster included so it can be used to denote the end of each artist in the workbook. Once complete students will have a portfolio of completed visual art projects.

Visual Art Portfolio

Create a binder to keep student work. When complete it shows the students growth over time. Upon completion of the packets, conducting a portfolio review can be a meaningful and valuable experience for the student and it is also a great way to show other kids and family members.

Ways to use in the visual art classroom:

As an introduction to a famous artist and their work.

Worksheets culminate with student creating their own pointillism artwork.

To support other skills including color, pattern, still life, abstract art, communication through art and more.

As early finisher work or as a quick art substitute lesson.

Note: There are options on how to give students color reference other than to print these sheets in color. You can project the example using a document camera or have students look up artwork on a chrome book or smartphone, for example.
