ROMARE BEARDEN MIXED MEDIA ART

Perfect as at the beginning of a class or semester, or even as a break, this quick lesson has students create mixed media art using magazines and their own artistic voice. Introduce students to Romare Bearden whose artwork was inspired by memories of past events and favorite places. Bearden is an American painter, whose collages depict aspects of American black culture. He is considered one of the most important African American artists of the 20th century.

CIRCLE TREE SILHOUETTE ACRYLIC BLENDING LESSON

This acrylic painting lesson is a great way to teach students basic color mixing and blending in acrylic paint. Blending in acrylic paint is difficult for students to learn and this is by far the easiest and most fun and most successful lesson I've found.

ACRYLIC PEAR TUTORIAL VIDEO:

This 47 minute narrated video takes students step by step through the process of painting a pear from photographic reference. There is no cutting and coming back to it looking wonderful, it shows the entire process.

ACRYLIC PORTRAIT - MONOCHROMATIC PORTRAIT PAINTING

Students learn how to paint a portrait using color theory. Painting has students paint each part of the portrait in a differnt color using tints and shades. Once complete students finish the painting by creating a pattern for the background. Monochromatic paintings can be so boring to look at, but these are amazing when finished!

Lots of pop and visual interest, students loved painting these!

MOUNTAINS AT SUNRISE ACRYLIC LANDSCAPE VIDEO TUTORIAL:

While students eventually need to find their own voice, they will easily get frustrated without the skills needed to master acrylic painting. This lesson will enable them to learn about basic color mixing, blending, layering, and creating space on a 2D surface. Students love following along with a tutorial and completing a beautiful landscape painting as a class. With this full demonstration video, presentation, lesson plan, rubric, color mixing chart, and examples you will set your students up for success when they venture out to create their own acrylic painting.

Students bring in their favorite food, photograph it with a good composition and then paint it using acrylic paint. The process includes painting tints, shades and intensity on a worksheet, painting a sphere and then using their reference photo to complete a realistic painting of their favorite food. After photographing their food I allow students to have a “party” with the unused food and share their photographs with each other to choose the one with the best composition.
