In this scratchboard art lesson students are introduced to the artist John James Audubon and illustrations from his book “Birds of America.” Students learn how to make marks on scratchboard using a scratchboard tool, create a value scale and sphere on scratchboard, then find photographic reference to use as the subject of their etching. Students identify contour lines, value shifts and learn about creating texture as they go through the process of this lesson.
